Minor Malfunctions

OK, so here's the deal: I was hard at work trying to bring back a new LOLeafs post. But then, Blogger decided that they didn't want to let me upload photos. Who the hell would want to see silly pictures of the Maple Leafs with silly photos anyway. This, of course, is a huge setback in my quest to provide humor. In a normal filler post, this is where I'd find a picture of a bunny or something and post it as fluff...but Blogger has taken that away from me. Bastards. I mean, it's not like I've been a loyal user for 3 years or anything.

Instead, here's a great video about a depressed whale until I can actually write something

Here's the Thing...

Not too long ago, I saw Prince of Persia. I had intended to make a feature starring Jeff Finger, where he'd make jokes about how Henrik Zetterberg was awesome at parkouring and had practiced diving and falling and how I could totally rock his greasy mom hair better than he does. I had a notebook where I took notes to remember my jokes.

When I got out of the theater and looked at my notes, here's what I saw:

Now, in my defense, it was dark and I was writing quickly. What I can read doesn't really make any sense to me. But to be fair, what I had was not that great, and I don't want to half-ass things here.

Damien Cox Sucks, Pope is Catholic, Bears Poo in Woods

By now, I'm sure all of you PPP frequenters and lurkers have heard of Damien Cox's little shitfit on Twitter on Saturday morning. While I have an idea for a visual dramatization of why he felt the need to get up at four AM on a Saturday morning to tell a basement cliche with some casual sexism thrown in for spice, I have yet to finish it. In the mean time, I give you this little filler. After all, a cheap laugh is still a laugh:

Soy un perdedor (actually perdedora for gender agreement, but I don't speak Spanish so what do I care?)

If you have no interest in Loser Domi's personal life, please stop reading now. Better yet, just read one of the past posts over again. This one's pretty good, as are this and this one.
(Shirt image stolen from http://ex-it.com.ar/novedades/?cat=3 which, for some reason, came up when I Googled "Soy un perdedor".)

I'll be honest--I started out my university career as a French major. At one point, I used to love it. Now, I'm terribly disillusioned with it--every French course I have to go to is a chore, almost an endurance test. I haven't been happy with the major since at least halfway though last school year.

While I've known that I must switch out of French, the main problem I've had/am having is the question of what area to switch to. I mean, it seems like a waste of time for me to switch to a major if I'm just going to end up becoming disillusioned with that as well. After lots of reflection and quite a few late-night marathon chats with close people, here's the game plan for me:

I'll go from a Major in French to a Major in Sociology with a minor in French. I'm only one course away from the French minor, so I might as well snap that up--it looks good on paper. Plus, during my first year and a half I took 4 sociology courses, so it's not like I'm jumping into something completely unknown. Hell, one of the professors thinks I'm some sort of genius and she still says hi whenever I see her around campus even though I haven't had a class of hers in almost three years. Plus sociology just sounds important; much more so than French. It seems interesting enough as a field of study and it may me marginally more applicable in the working world than French would be (although considering the best I’ll probably have to look forward to is some sort of meaningless office job, neither is really applicable.)

One of the best parts is that I’ll never again have to be put onstage at parties. Usually when I tell people that I am a French major, they ask me to speak French, which is annoying as all Hell. Is that normal, to ask someone to perform his or her major? If you’re an accounting major, I don’t ask you to count to ten without using your fingers, do I? Also, I won’t have the assumption that I will be a teacher and I won’t have to explain how much I hate the kids I would be teaching.

I’ll share a little story—when I was in high school my older sister graduated from her university and came back to my school to teach introductory French and Spanish. I still marvel at the fact that she didn’t end up smacking some of those kids (middle and high school aged) around—I had seen them in action and they were little self-centered monsters. Then again, my sister is much more patient with other people than I can ever hoe to be (besides, she isn’t teaching any more.) People talk about how rewarding it is to teach, but I don’t really see the reward. All I see is a bunch of outside work—reading papers, making quizzes and such—and the kids end up not respecting you. I try to keep that in mind whenever I bitch about writing a paper—I’m just glad that I don’t have to mark 30+ of the damn things.

At this point, I’m not sure where I’m going, either with my path or with this post. But, what I do know is that I am going somewhere. Does that still count for anything?

Youtube Keeps Me From Having to Put Effort Into Posts

First off, my apologies for not updating nearly often enough. I'm just dealing with a lot of crap right now between university work, personal/family issues, and the like. In addition, this weekend is Halllowe'en weekend, so I anticipate lots and lotsa drunken debauchery, which means probably not much posting. Instead, I present to you 3 of my favorite Youtube clips that I can somehow finagle a way to get them to be about hockey. As always, enjoy!

Clip one: Tie Domi on "The Rick Mercer Report":
Well, it's Tie Domi, so the hockey connection pretty much explains itself. The "ooh--pussy willow!" line gets me every single time. However, I can never get the friggin' napkin flower to come out.

Clip two: (possibly NSFW due to 3 seconds of naked man ass) Gunther and the Sunshine Girls: "Ding Ding Song (You Touch my Tra-la-la)":
Well, Gunther is Swedish, and Swedish people like hockey, therefore, using a "Six Degrees of Separation"-type rule, Gunther = hockey. Plus gorgeous women, so it's all good. What I mean is, I'm a straight woman, but Sunshine Girls...holy hotness, Batman!

Clip three: Elmo's World- Behind the Scenes
The only connection I can make is that I imagine this is how Jeremy Roenick is behind the scenes from reading Barry Melrose Rocks (melroserocks.blogspot.com) all the time:

It's growing everywhere...

Ok, Domiteers, the "300" thing took quite a bit of work, and I felt like I could get away with a one-joke pun. Enjoy!

Result of a Request...(or filler until I get around to writing the introductory post)

This past summer, one of the fine folks over at Melt Your Face Off (find them here: http://meltyourfaceoff.wordpress.com ) requested that the Toronto Maple Leafs change their sweater to be a pot leaf, even if for just one year. Look up the post yourself--I'm far too lazy to do so.
So anyway, I took it upon myself to create what this might look like, I know I have no drawing ability, but here it is anyway.

Yeah that’s from August. I’m lazy, I know. And I know I can’t draw worth anything, but hey—this is all given for free. So there.

I even have a justification for using this as a real jersey: back around the ‘20s or so, the Toronto Maple Leafs were known as the Toronto St Pats, whose team colors were green and white (http://www.rivercitysports.com/US/details-06.cfm?sku=82493 ) instead of the blue and white we see today. Add this to the “throwback” style third jersey we see today (here http://shop.nhl.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2147982&cp=1920316.1920479&parentPage=family&clickid=body_bestsell_img and here: http://shop.nhl.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2140519&cp=1920316.1920479&parentPage=family&clickid=body_bestsell_img ) and you tell me that wouldn't look like a pot leaf! By the way, Googling for an image of “Toronto St. Pat’s” has taken a bit of my soul away. I apologize for not having pictures of a jersey, but after looking for half an hour, I give up
